I have decided to introduce a fossicking section to this site, because of a keen interest I have in Gold fossicking. I don't profess to be an expert in this particular field, but during upcoming articles I hope to be able to pass on some information and knowledge that I have been able to pick up in my short time in this excellent hobby.
I have been involved with this hobby for about 5 years maybe a little more when you take into consideration a bit of Topaz fossicking earlier in the piece.
It all started one time when my fiance and I decided to go to a little place called Obrien's creek just out of Mount Surprise in North Queensland and do a little Topaz fossicking.
Being newbies, we thought this was all going to be too easy, just turn up, dig a couple of holes, find Topaz, fill in holes go home.. too easy....
Wrong! We dug and dug, sorted through the mounds of dirt trying to work out what a Topaz looked like, man it was hard work, especially when you don't know what you are doing or looking for.
We did end up find a few Topaz and met a lot of nice people with similar interests.
On the way home we were discussing the weekend that had just gone by, and it was mentioned that it would be good to have a machine to tell you where to dig and that it would save a lot of time and effort.
Hence the idea of moving on to fossicking for gold came to life
So we got in and did a bit of research on the internet, not really knowing what we wanted or were after.
So I joined up on a couple of prospecting forums that were around at the time, Finders and the old MSN prospectors forum. Got feedback from a John W and a bloke called Jonathan Porter giving us some friendly advice on what we should look for and a price we should expect.
So armed with that advice we headed into NQ Miners Den and spoke with George. He confirmed the advice that we had already received and as luck would have it George had his own original Extreme machine there for sale.
So with a deal done, you can say the rest is now history.
